On August 10, Udupi played host to the National Deworming Day program, held at St. Cecily High School Hall. The event was jointly organized by various departments of the District Administration, District Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department Udupi, and the National Health Campaign. Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna inaugurated the program, emphasizing the importance of deworming in preventing malnutrition and anemia in children. He stated that deworming pills are administered twice a year to eliminate worms, and all children between 1 to 19 years of age in the district should take the pill to lead a healthy life. Today, approximately 2,72,477 children in the district are being given free Albendazole tablets. Children aged 1 to 5 years will receive the pills at Anganwadis, while those between 6 to 19 years of age will receive them at government, aided, private schools, and colleges. A mop-up day is scheduled for the 17th. District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Basavaraja G Hubli assured students that the deworming pills are safe to consume without fear of side effects. He also highlighted the importance of the HP vaccine in preventing cervical cancer in women, particularly for girls between 14 and 15 years of age who have not received the vaccine. Urban Development Authority Chairman Dinaka Heroor and District RCH Officer Dr. Jyotsna B.K also spoke at the event. The program concluded with the symbolic distribution of deworming pills to students, and the vote of thanks was offered by Field Health Education Officer Chandrakala.
