On August 7, Congress leader and contractor David D’Souza was shot and killed in Mudarangadi, Udupi, and now the police are closing in on the mastermind behind the crime. A police team has been dispatched to North India to track down the key suspect, a contractor from the region who had financial dealings with D’Souza related to Adani UPCL work. The team, which has already arrived in Haryana, is conducting a thorough search for the accused and has detained several individuals in Haryana and Punjab for questioning. Although no arrests have been made in connection with the mastermind, the police have already apprehended three suspects – Raju from Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Rastogi from Uttarakhand, and Ziyahul Wazul Sheikh from Bihar – who allegedly carried out the shooting. The main accused, Raju, was injured in the leg during the arrest and is currently undergoing treatment at the Udupi District Hospital. Ajay Rastogi and Ziyahul Wazul Sheikh were produced before a judge on Saturday night and remanded in judicial custody. The police are expected to request a 15-day custody extension for further investigation on Monday. The probe into D’Souza’s murder is ongoing, with the police working to identify local accomplices and gather evidence. So far, the investigation has led the police to North India, where they are working to uncover the truth behind the crime.
