Despite earlier announcing his resignation on August 14, Horatti has now sought more time before stepping down. Following the discussion, Horatti left the Chief Minister’s residence appearing displeased. He reiterated his commitment to his earlier stand, stating that if the Congress wants to move a no-confidence motion, they can proceed according to the law.
According to insiders, the Congress has begun preparations to move a no-confidence motion against Horatti, citing concerns over his alleged partisan behavior. Congress MLC Ivan D’Souza is reportedly preparing the notice, which is expected to be submitted to the Legislative Council. The controversy surrounds the Congress party’s announcement of senior leader Saleem Ahmed as its candidate for the post, despite Horatti still occupying the Chair. The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized this decision, arguing that it undermines the constitutional sanctity of the Chairman’s post.
Horatti has expressed displeasure over the developments, stating that it is inappropriate to undermine the dignity of a constitutional office. He added that even after resigning as Chairman, he will continue to participate in the Legislative Council proceedings as an ordinary member. The political drama over the Karnataka Legislative Council Chairmanship continues, with the Congress government and Horatti at odds over the issue.
