On Wednesday, Kundapura MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi emphasized the importance of establishing anti-drug associations in every college to raise awareness against substance abuse. He was speaking at the inauguration of a district-level competition organized as part of the Nasha Mukt Yuva Vikasit Bharat program at Bhandarkars College in Kundapura. The event was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Udupi District Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, National Service Scheme, Mahavishnu Youth Club, and Haregodu.
Kodgi highlighted that the central government is taking measures to prevent youth from getting caught in the drug network, and such programs should be conducted in all colleges across the country. He stressed that at this age, young minds are more susceptible to falling into the trap of substance abuse and should focus on their studies instead. This, in turn, will contribute to the country’s progress and help achieve the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Kundapura Town PSI Nanjanayak inaugurated the program and administered the pledge, while Dr. Subhkara Acharya, principal of the college, presided over the event. Other dignitaries present included Shivananad Shetty, deputy director of Namma Bhoomi CWC, K.R. Nayak, entrepreneur, Dr. Rajendra K., director of the National Service Scheme, and Raghavendra Charan Navada, president of the Mahavishnu Youth Club.
The program included various district-level competitions for college students as part of the anti-drug campaign. Ullas K.T., district coordinator of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, My Bharat, also spoke at the event. Narasimha Gainiga of the Mahavishnu Youth Club welcomed the guests, while Prof. Satyanarayana, student welfare officer of the college, bid farewell. Jyoti Saligrama, program executive of Radio Kundapura, compered the event.
