On August 8, schools and colleges in Puttur, Belthangady, Sullia, and Kadaba taluks will remain closed due to the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has taken this precautionary measure in light of the rainfall across the Puttur sub-division. The holiday applies to all Anganwadi centers, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, pre-university colleges, and diploma colleges up to 12th standard in these taluks.
The Deputy Commissioner has warned that legal action will be taken against those who violate this order, as per the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Additionally, parents are advised to keep children away from low-lying areas, lakes, riverbanks, and seashores. Fishermen have also been cautioned against venturing into the sea. District and taluk level officers are required to remain at their headquarters and carry out disaster management duties, responding promptly to public complaints and maintaining contact with the Deputy Commissioner’s office control room.
The public, including tourists, are advised to avoid visiting riverbanks and seashores. The district administration has taken these measures to ensure public safety in the face of the weather forecast. With the weather conditions expected to continue, the authorities are taking a proactive approach to mitigate any potential risks.
