On Monday, July 27, 30-year-old Sodi Martha, a pregnant tribal woman from Chintakunta village in Burgampadu mandal, was forced to deliver her baby in an ambulance due to the poor condition of the road. The village’s only approach road, filled with potholes, delayed the arrival of the 108 ambulance and made the return journey to Bhadrachalam extremely difficult. As a result, the medical team, including Emergency Medical Technician Radha, had to conduct the delivery inside the vehicle near a forest. Martha gave birth to a baby boy, and both were later shifted to Bhadrachalam Area Hospital.
The incident has sparked outrage among the villagers and members of the tribal community, who blame successive governments for neglecting basic infrastructure in remote tribal areas. They claim that politicians only visit these areas during election time, but fail to address their concerns afterwards. The condition of the roads has made it challenging for people in these areas to access essential services, including healthcare. The recent incident has highlighted the need for urgent attention to this issue.
