On Friday, in New Delhi, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi stated that discussions will not proceed until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is removed from his position and Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologizes to students affected by the anti-paper leak agitation. Gandhi claimed his microphone was switched off in the House, preventing him from responding to Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju. Rijiju had accused the Opposition of avoiding a discussion on exam paper leaks and educational issues during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Opposition had sought a discussion on the students’ issue but urged the Union government to accept the adjournment motion. Gandhi emphasized that the Opposition’s stand is based on three demands: Pradhan’s resignation, action against those who attacked students, and the Prime Minister’s apology. Congress MP Tariq Anwar supported Gandhi’s claim, stating that the Chairman’s behavior was undemocratic. Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav maintained that there is no deadlock with the government, but rather a desire for the Education Minister to resign and for a discussion to take place. Congress MP Kumari Selja also demanded Pradhan’s resignation, citing the brutal treatment of students and the need for the government to understand ethics.
