On July 22, 2026, the southern Iranian city of Minab held a funeral ceremony for 34 newly identified victims of the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School strike. The victims, whose remains were recovered from beneath the rubble of the school, were identified through DNA testing and forensic examinations. Flag-draped coffins were carried by mourners in a public procession through the city’s streets before the victims were laid to rest at the Martyrs’ Cemetery. Hundreds of people attended the ceremony, offering prayers and paying their respects as the procession moved through the city. The school was struck on February 28, resulting in the deaths of over 168 children and teachers, according to Iranian authorities. Iran has accused the United States and Israel of carrying out the strike as part of a joint military operation. The funeral ceremony marked the end of a long wait for the families of the victims, with Minab’s mothers bidding a painful farewell to their martyred children.
