On July 22, 2026, in Davanagere district, Karnataka, two brothers, Venkatesh and Manjunath, were booked by the police for exhuming their mother’s body without permission. The brothers, residents of Adapur village in Harihar taluk, allegedly dug up the grave of their mother, Eeramma, who died on April 30, and transported her body to the Davanagere District Hospital on a motorcycle. They claimed that her death was suspicious and demanded a fresh post-mortem examination. Davanagere Superintendent of Police H.T. Shekhar stated that an unnatural death case had already been registered and the investigation was in progress. The brothers’ actions were taken without court permission, prompting the police to take custody of the body and shift it to the district hospital. A second post-mortem has been conducted, and the forensic science laboratory report has been received. The police will conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations raised by the family. Eeramma died under suspicious circumstances on April 29, and her son Manjunath had earlier lodged a complaint against 11 persons, alleging they were responsible for her death. The brothers alleged that the initial post-mortem was conducted in haste and accused the police of attempting to suppress the case. The investigation into Eeramma’s death and the alleged illegal exhumation is ongoing.
