On July 17, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka launched the New Employees Health Scheme in Hyderabad, providing cashless and transparent healthcare services to 17.88 lakh government employees, pensioners, and their dependent family members. The scheme was unveiled at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, where the Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha also launched the Employees Health Care Trust trust deed and the NEHS web portal. Digital health cards were released for beneficiaries, who will receive cashless treatment at 886 private and 114 government hospitals. The list of participating hospitals includes prominent names such as Apollo, Yashoda, KIMS, and Medicover. The NEHS is designed to address the shortcomings of the earlier Employees Health Scheme, including low package rates and limited employee representation. Under the new scheme, the government will contribute an amount equal to employees’ and pensioners’ contributions, with all funds earmarked exclusively for the scheme. The scheme covers 17,88,336 beneficiaries, including 4,38,594 employees, 3,61,955 pensioners, and nearly 9.88 lakh family members. The NEHS includes 1,816 medical and surgical packages aligned with the Central Government Health Scheme. Employees and pensioners can download digital health cards through the NEHS portal, and the entire process will be handled digitally. The minister announced plans to expand employee wellness infrastructure, with 12 wellness centres currently providing outpatient services to around 1,800 people daily. The government plans to establish 24 additional centres and link them with government hospitals to provide specialist and super-specialist consultations.
