On June 13, in Udupi, a peaceful dharna satyagraha was held in Manipal, led by the Karnataka Adivasi Rights Coordination Committee, Udupi District Committee, to demand land allotment for landless Koraga families from Aluru and Harkur villages in Kundapur taluk. Hundreds of Koraga community members, leaders from various people’s organizations, and members of the public participated in the sit-in, seeking immediate completion of the land allotment process, which has been pending for nearly ten years. During the sit-in, Udupi District Collector invited the delegation to his office for a detailed discussion. The Collector, who received the organization’s appeal, stated that he has complete information about the land case of the Koraga families of Aluru village, with documents and reports from various departments available with the district administration. He assured that a meeting of all concerned departments will be held soon under his chairmanship, and a final decision will be taken on the case. The organization petitioned the District Collector to allot 10.67 acres of land in Aluru and Harkur villages to 13 landless Koraga families and to provide possession of land sanctioned in 1984-85 to the original beneficiaries. The delegation included Karnataka Adivasi Rights Coordination Committee District Coordinator Sridhara Nada, State Committee Members Krishna Inna and Ganesh Alur, and Koraga community writers Babu Pangala and Kudupa. Various people’s organization leaders and Koraga community members also participated in the dharna satyagraha.
