On Friday, July 10, at around 3:35 PM, a 12-year-old boy, Jaykumar Jaiswal, lost his life in a tragic building collapse incident in Thane district, Maharashtra. The accident occurred at Madras Chawl in Azad Nagar, Brahmand, when a section of a neighbouring building fell on his house. Two of his family members, Urmila Jaiswal, 35, and Vinit Jaiswal, 9, sustained head injuries and are undergoing treatment at Titan Hospital in Manpada. The affected building, estimated to be around 25 to 30 years old, was a ground-plus-one-storey structure. Preliminary findings suggest that a portion of the building’s gallery suddenly gave way and crashed onto the adjoining house where the family members were asleep. Jaykumar Jaiswal was rushed to the Civil Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The incident prompted an immediate rescue operation by local authorities and emergency services. Three neighbouring houses in Madras Chawl were evacuated as a precautionary measure to prevent any further casualties. Structural inspections and debris-clearing operations are being carried out jointly by the Majiwada Ward Committee, the Public Works Department, and the Encroachment Department to assess the safety of nearby structures.
The rescue operation involved two fire engines, a rescue vehicle, a disaster management utility vehicle, and an ambulance. Authorities ensured that the affected area was secured while search and clearance work continued. This incident comes just days after another fatal house collapse in Mumbai amid heavy rainfall, which claimed the lives of six people. Local residents and authorities are on high alert to prevent such incidents in the future.
