On July 5, 2026, the Dakshina Kannada district administration took proactive measures to mitigate the risks associated with the monsoon season by identifying 88 landslide-prone locations in the region. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to relocate to safer places. Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader, who is also the district in-charge, directed officials in Udupi district to enhance their preparedness for the monsoon season.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan conducted a review of disaster management and relief measures in Mangaluru, where he stated that residents of the 88 vulnerable locations had been asked to move to safer places over the past month. The Deputy Commissioner noted that Belthangady taluk has the highest number of landslide-prone locations with 35, followed by other taluks. Furthermore, 57 houses in Mangaluru city have developed structural cracks, and their occupants have been advised to relocate temporarily.
Meanwhile, in Udupi, Minister Khader chaired a review meeting to discuss rain-related damage and drinking water issues. He instructed officials to work in close coordination to tackle monsoon-related emergencies and ensure prompt assistance to affected people. The Minister also emphasized the importance of providing emotional support to affected families and ensuring that relief reaches them without delay.
Minister Khader directed officials to take various measures, including ensuring the distribution of textbooks and uniforms, enhancing preparedness for communicable diseases, and eliminating mosquito breeding sites. He also instructed the Public Works Department to repair rain-damaged roads and clear roadside drains immediately.
