On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi entered its 16th day, with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on his eighth day of an indefinite hunger strike. Wangchuk has lost around six kg since beginning the fast, and his health bulletin shows fair hydration, a blood pressure of 112/70 mm Hg, and a heart rate of 72 beats per minute. The CJP is demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation and government accountability over alleged examination irregularities.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke spoke to supporters during the hunger strike, which is seeking action over alleged irregularities in examinations. The protest has been ongoing since June 20, with several members of the Left-affiliated All India Students’ Association also participating in an indefinite hunger strike on a separate stage.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which had extended support to the CJP agitation, will send a delegation to the Jantar Mantar on July 7. The farmers’ body has expressed solidarity with the students and youngsters participating in the agitation, saying every student has the right to a transparent and fair examination system.

Parents of 23-year-old NEET aspirant Ria Kumari Thapa, who allegedly died by suicide in Dehradun, visited the protest site on Sunday. Thapa’s father, an Army veteran, joined the protest and appealed to the Centre to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
