On Thursday, at the Udupi district office, a joint event was organized by the district administration, zilla panchayat, and the Kannada and Culture Department to celebrate the birth anniversary of F. Gu Halakatti and Vachana Literature Conservation Day. M. A. Ghafoor, the president of the Coastal Development Authority, inaugurated the event and paid floral tributes to Dr. F. Gu Halakatti. Ghafoor said that Halakatti’s tireless efforts to collect, preserve, and publish thousands of vachanas written by sharanas like Basavanna, Allamaprabhu, and Akkamahadevi have ensured the survival of Vachana literature. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Abid Gadyal, the additional district commissioner, and Neelavara Surendra Adiga, the president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. They highlighted the importance of Vachana literature in promoting social reform and equality. Dr. Niranjana, the president of the Sharana Sahitya Parishat, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the need to preserve and promote Vachana literature.
