On Tuesday, Colonel Somu G. Maharajan, Director of the Mangaluru Army Recruitment Office, interacted with National Defence Academy (NDA) aspirants at Alvas Pre-University College in Moodubidire. He stated that during the NDA selection process, candidates are given more preference for their leadership qualities, personality, logical thinking, and decision-making ability over academic achievements. The Services Selection Board (SSB) selection process assesses a candidate’s personality, emotional stability, communication skills, problem-solving ability, and decision-making skills at various stages.

Psychological tests, group discussions, leadership activities, problem-solving exercises, and personal interviews are used to evaluate a candidate’s thought process, leadership ability, communication skills, teamwork, and decision-making ability under pressure. The selection process prioritizes a candidate’s natural personality, genuine thought process, and ability to make quick, informed decisions over memorized or pre-prepared answers.

Colonel Maharajan advised students to face each challenge with confidence, analyze problems with their context, and develop practical solutions. He also emphasized the importance of continuously developing general knowledge, communication skills, body language, and physical ability for students preparing for the NDA exam and SSB interview. Harmony between thought, speech, and action is essential for future officers, he added.

Alvas Pre-University College Principal Prof. Sadakat spoke at the event, highlighting the NDA exam as a prestigious opportunity for thousands of students who dream of serving the nation. The NDA exam, one of the country’s most challenging and prestigious competitive exams, tests a student’s intellectual ability, leadership, personality, and commitment to national service.

A question-and-answer session followed, where students clarified their doubts about exam preparation and career opportunities in the Indian Armed Forces. The program was attended by Vikhyat Bhhat, a science department coordinator, and NDA coordinator Deviprasad Padmar, while lecturer Shivaprasad compered the event.
