On Monday, Dr M.N. Rajendra Kumar, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Central Cooperative Bank, inaugurated the Special Cooperative Week celebrations in Mangaluru, emphasizing the cooperative sector’s significant role in the country’s development. The event was jointly organized by the Karnataka State Cooperative Federation, Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation, Dakshina Kannada District Central Cooperative Bank, Dakshina Kannada District Cooperative Union, and the Department of Cooperation, at the Central Bank auditorium.
Dr Rajendra Kumar highlighted that the cooperative movement transcends political affiliations, with over 47,000 cooperative societies in Karnataka and over 30 crore members across the country. He noted that these societies have taken banking services to the grassroots, developed strong relationships with the public, and provided financial assistance during times of need.
MLA Vedavyas D. Kamath, who hoisted the flag to mark the beginning of the Special Cooperative Week, emphasized the importance of cooperation in Indian society and culture. Raviraj Hegde, President of the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, stressed the need for the cooperative sector to adopt modern technology to better serve customers.
The week-long celebrations aim to create public awareness about various cooperative initiatives and schemes, as the Union Ministry of Cooperation completes five years. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Jayakar Shetty B. Indrali, H.N. Ramesh, and Gopalakrishna Bhat K.
