7 killed as bus plunges into canal while attending wedding reception in Andhra Pradesh

 

Hyderabad, July 11 : Seven people, including three women and a minor girl, died in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasham district while going to attend a wedding reception. 15 were seriously injured. The condition of 4 of the injured is critical.

According to reports, the accident took place last night near Darshi in the district when the driver of the bus hired by APSRTC lost his balance and the bus fell into Sagar Nahar. According to the police, the bus was carrying 47 people, including two drivers, who were traveling from Podali to Kakanada to attend a wedding reception at the time of the accident.

Due to the decrease in the water level in the canal, the severity of the accident did not increase. The injured were immediately shifted to the nearest government hospital for treatment while the seriously injured were taken to Rams Hospital in Ongole for better treatment. The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old Abdul Aziz, 60-year-old Abdul Hai, 48-year-old Sheikh Rameez, 58-year-old M. Noor Jahan, 65-year-old M. Jani Begum, 35-year-old Sheikh Shabeena and 7-year-old Hina.

Police said that a case has been registered in this regard and investigation has been started. Prakasham district SP Malik Garg confirmed the accident and said that as a result of the accident the passengers fell on each other. He described the accident as unfortunate and said that steps have been taken to remove the bus from the canal. The scene of the accident was a gruesome scene. The bus was also damaged in this accident.

As soon as the accident was reported, the authorities started the relief work and started evacuating the passengers from the bus. It is suspected that the driver was in a state of sleep due to which the accident took place. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the accident. He expressed his condolences to the family members of the deceased and directed the authorities to ensure better treatment of the injured. He said that the government stands with the family.
