Zaka Ashraf becomes the new chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board.
Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has constituted a new ten-member PCB Management Committee under the chairmanship of Zaka Ashraf for the next four months. The first meeting of the committee will be held in Lahore on Thursday. Ashraf was set to occupy the post of Pakistan Cricket Board chairman but the PCB postponed the election of the chairman post after being challenged in several courts across the country.
The government replaced PCB election commissioner Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana with Supreme Court lawyer Mehmood Iqbal Khakwani in his place. The election for the post of PCB chairman was postponed on June 26 after the Balochistan High Court accepted a petition filed by Gul Muhammad Kakar, a former member of the PCB Management Committee, and fixed the hearing for July 17.
Former chairman Najam Sethi, before pulling out of the election race, formed a ten-member governing board, including two directly nominated by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Acting President Ahmed Shahzad Farooqi Rana made several changes in the Board of Governors following which Kakar filed the petition.(Agency)
