Yellow Alert in Coastal Karnataka, Kodagu- Light rain likely in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, July 08: Heavy rains (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) are likely in coastal Karnataka till Sunday morning, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Against this backdrop, yellow alert has been declared in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada in coastal Karnataka.
Rainfall has decreased in coastal Karnataka. However, fishermen have been warned not to go near the beach. It rained in coastal Karnataka this week and a red alert was announced.
Due to heavy rainfall in this region, the Meteorological Department has issued an order declaring red alert for at least three days in Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi.
“There is a possibility of wind speed of 30-40 km per hour at isolated places along the coast on July 8 and 9,” the Meteorological Department said.
40-45 kmph wind gusting to 55 kmph is likely to occur over Karnataka coast on July 9. The weather department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.
A yellow alert has been announced for Kodagi (Madikeri) in the southern hinterland of Karnataka on Saturday, the IMD said. People of Kodagu district should stay at home as much as possible. The Meteorological Department has warned that people should stop traveling near the tourist spots such as Giri hills.
According to the meteorological agency, light to moderate rain is likely in Bengaluru city and Bengaluru rural districts till Monday. The Meteorological Department has not issued heavy rain warning for other districts of north interior and south interior Karnataka.
Although it is raining moderately in Bangalore, the weather is still cold. The weather department has shared information that it will continue for the next three days.
Meanwhile, some ministers of the state government will visit the rain-affected areas of coastal Karnataka. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and Uttara Kannada Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar will visit Udupi on Saturday, news agency ANI reported. Hebbalkar is also the in-charge minister of Udupi district.
Dakshina District In-charge Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao will visit Dakshina Kannada. Three people have lost their lives in Dakshina Kannada due to rain.
In some districts of North Karnataka, it is known that the farmers are distraught as there is no rain yet. Dharwad rural MLA Vinay Kulkarni has said that if there is no rain for a few more days, he will declare drought.
