WTC Final 2023: India’s failure continues: Australia win World Test Championship

 

 

Australia won the cup by defeating India by 209 runs in the World Test Championship final. Australia became the first team to become world champions in all formats.

In the match held at London’s Kennington Oval, Australia put up a brilliant batting and bowling performance to defeat India. India won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Batting first, Australia scored 469 runs. David Warner scored 43 runs, Steve Smith scored 121 runs, Travis Head shone with a brilliant 163 runs. Wicket keeper Alex Carey scored 48 runs. For India, Mohammad Shami took 2 wickets, Mohammad Siraj took 4 wickets, Shardul Thakur took 2 wickets, Jadeja took 1 wicket.

After starting the first innings, India were bowled out for 296 runs. Rohit Sharma 15, Shubman Gill 13, Cheteshwar Pujara 14, Virat Kohli disappointed by scoring 14 runs. Ajinkya Rahane scored 89 runs, Jadeja scored 48 runs and Shardul scored 51 runs. Mitchell Starc, Boland and Cameron Green took 2 wickets each. Pat Cummins took 3 wickets, Nathan Lyon took 1 wicket.

Australia take a huge lead

After taking a huge lead of 173 runs in the first innings, Australia lost 8 wickets in the second innings and declared for 270 runs to take a lead of 444 runs. Marnus Labuschagne 41, Steve Smith 34, Alex Carey 66, Mitchell Starc scored 41 runs in the second innings.

Chasing a huge total of 444 runs, the Indian team got a shock at the beginning. Shubman Gill scored 18 runs and was the victim of a controversial decision. Rohit Sharma 43, Virat Kohli 49, Ajinkya Rahane scored 46 runs. They were bowled out for 234 runs in the second innings and lost by 209 runs. Travis Head, who scored a brilliant century, won the man of the match award.

The Indian team has not won the ICC trophy for the last 10 years, and after reaching the World Test Championship final for the second time in a row, India also failed to win the trophy for the second time. The Asia Cup and ODI World Cup are also happening this year and fans have demanded that India focus on them.
