Bangalore : Twice a week, 15-year-old Banashankari sits on the entrance of the temple inside the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) head office at N.R. Sq. and sells flowers. At the same time as her nimble fingers move swiftly making flower garlands, her eyes are on the cellphone by her side, on which she attends her online courses.
The Secondary College Leaving Certificates (SSLC) student from Mitralaya College was, nevertheless, in for a surprise on Tuesday morning when civic chief Gaurav Gupta noticed her on the temple and spoke to her, enquiring about her studies.
“I by no means imagined that such a ‘big officer’ will communicate to me. I come to the temple solely on Tuesdays and Fridays. Business is poor. Our household struggled throughout the lockdown. I attempt to assist my mother and father in whatever method I can,” Ms. Banashankari told The Hindu.
She is normally on the temple from 8 a.m. to round 1 p.m. and is back again post 4 p.m. “I get very tired sometimes. However, my academics have been very useful. They send YouTube hyperlinks of classes and notes to me on WhatsApp,” she mentioned.
Her mother and father Anitha S. and Hemaraju need her to pursue her schooling. “I’m well-prepared for the SSLC examination. I’m hoping to attain above 95%,” she mentioned.
Impressed along with her, Mr. Gupta promised to assist her in his private capacity. He mentioned he would purchase her a laptop computer with which she might attend on-line courses. Minister for Primary and Secondary Schooling S. Suresh Kumar appreciated this gesture and wrote about it on his social media account.
