Imphal: Riots broke out again in violence-hit Manipur, and a woman was shot dead in the capital Imphal East.
The incident took place in Savombang area of Imphal on Saturday evening when miscreants entered the house of a 50-year-old woman named Maring and shot her in the face. The assailants shot the woman and mutilated her face before fleeing the scene, officials said.
The Manipur Police has started an operation to arrest the accused, the area where the shooting took place has been cordoned off and the houses in the nearby areas are also being searched. The police have already recorded the statements of people around the incident. The deceased woman belonged to the Naga community and was said to be suffering from some mental health problems.
Educational institutions, which were closed for a long period due to the violence, resumed functioning only on Friday. A day later, a woman was shot dead outside a school in West Imphal district. Due to this, violence broke out again in the North Eastern state and three cargo trucks were set on fire.
The violence started in the northeastern state of Manipur in May.
