Uttarakhand’s New Chief Minister is Pushkar Singh Dhami.
New Delhi, Jul 3 In a meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary party in Dehradun, Dhami, a two-term MLA, was voted as chief minister of the Himalayan state.Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and party national general secretary D. Purandeswari were among the central observers at the poll. Dushyant Gautam, the BJP’s Uttarakhand in-charge, was also present during the meeting.
Governor Baby Rani Maurya received Tirath Singh Rawat’s resignation late Friday. Rawat was a Lok Sabha member from Garhwal, and he had to be sworn in as an elected MLA within six months of becoming Chief Minister, according to the constitution. For many years, the 45-year-old Khatima seat MLA from the Udham Singh Nagar area has worked in various capacities in the RSS’ students wing, ABVP. He has served two terms as the president of the BJP’s youth wing in Uttarakhand. Rawat was meant to get re-elected to the state Assembly by September 10 to keep his job, but he couldn’t because of a provision in the Representation of the People Act, 1951, that specifies bypolls can’t be called if the remaining term in the house in connection to the vacancy is less than a year.
