On Tuesday, in Washington, the United States launched a digital portal to facilitate collaboration between defence companies, technology start-ups, investors, and researchers for the development of the $185 billion Golden Dome missile defence system. Gen. Mike Guetlein, Director of Golden Dome for America, introduced the Golden Dome for America Ecosystem Hub at the annual Space and Missile Defense Symposium. This platform will enable potential industry partners to register, upload concepts, and submit designs directly to programme decision-makers, thereby eliminating months of administrative delays. The Department of War expects this system to streamline the development process. The portal will provide real-time, unclassified information about gaps in the programme’s capabilities, allowing companies and investors to direct research and development towards the system’s immediate requirements. Gen. Guetlein emphasized the need for a defensive shield that adapts faster than the adversary, which can be achieved by cutting bureaucratic red-tape and harnessing innovation through partnerships. The portal is intended to strengthen supply chains, expand the US defence industrial base, and provide qualified suppliers with access to new sources of capital. The Golden Dome system is envisioned as a layered system capable of detecting, tracking, and intercepting different types of incoming aerial and missile threats. The US government plans to use commercially available technologies and competition among suppliers to control the project’s cost, with the goal of establishing an unassailable, highly resilient industrial base built on transparency and collaborative problem-solving.
