Bangalore: By-election (MLC By Election) has been announced for the three vacant seats in the Vidhan Parishad. Voting will be held on 30 . The nomination process has started from today (June 13) for the by-elections to the three seats of the Vidhan Parishad from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. In terms of numerical strength, the ruling Congress party is certain to get three seats. In this background, JDS has decided not to field a candidate. It is doubtful that BJP will also field a candidate. Thus, there is a possibility that the Congress candidates will be elected unopposed.
Three notification will be published separately as the three posts will expire in different periods. This action will be taken on the direction of the Central Election Commission and separate elections will be held for three seats on the same day. In terms of numerical strength, the ruling Congress party is certain to get three seats. In this background, JDS has decided not to field a candidate. It is doubtful that BJP will also field a candidate. Hence it is expected to be elected unopposed. 20th of this month is the last day to submit nomination papers. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on 21st and 23rd is the last day to withdraw nominations. Voting will be held on June 30 from 9 am to 4 pm and counting of votes will be held at 5 pm on the same day.
Baburao Chinchansur, R. Shankar and Laxman Savadi, who were selected by BJP in the elections held from the Legislative Assembly to the Vidhan Parishad, left the party and resigned to contest in the Assembly elections.
Baburao Chinchansur term was till June 17, 2024. Similarly, R. Shankar’s term was ending on June 30, 2026, and Laxman Savadi’s term was up to June 14, 2028. However, he resigned as he contested the assembly elections.
Who is MLC?
Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology Minister NS Bosaraju, who is not a member of both houses, is certain to contest. Former minister Baburao Chinchanasur, who resigned from his MLC post on March 20, 2023, is likely to be re-elected by the Congress. Chinchansur’s tenure will end on June 17, 2024.
Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, former minister Umashree, leaders BL Shankar, VL Sudarshan, Ivan D’Souza, Laxman, Kavita Reddy, Pushpa Amarnath, Manjula Manasa and others are being heard for another position.
