Unsettled peace in Manipur: A youth who came to steal weapons was shot dead
Imphal, July 5: A 27-year-old youth was killed and several others injured when police opened fire to disperse a mob that tried to loot weapons from an armed police camp in Manipur’s Thoubal district.
In this incident, tear gas shells had to be used near the police camp to disperse the crowd. Police said a group consisting of a large number of men and women tried to loot arms and ammunition from the camp of India Reserve Battalion of the Manipur Armed Police in Khangabok area.
Security personnel first tried to bring the situation under control by using teargas shells and rubber bullets. But as the armed group opened fire, the deployed forces repulsed them. Abujam Ronaldo was killed by the police in the incident
At least 12 people were injured in the clash. Enraged by this, the mob blocked the highways leading to the security camp at many places to prevent additional troops from reaching there. Security forces eventually foiled the attempt to loot weapons from the security posts, defense sources said.
Additional troops of Assam Rifles and Rapid Action Force reached the spot and the situation was brought under control with the combined efforts of security forces, an Army tweet said.

Manipur CM Biren Singh said that the security personnel deployed will guard and prevent any trouble caused to the farmers of both the communities by the armed miscreants.
