Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje on Friday urged the Karnataka government to commission a scientific study of Bengaluru traffic congestion before the tunnel road scheme moves ahead. Speaking at a press briefing in the BJP state office Jagannath Bhavan, she warned that proceeding without solid data could jeopardise the city's future.
Karandlaje highlighted a sharp escalation in the project's price tag. The first package, originally estimated at Rs 5,484 crore, now stands at Rs 10,734 crore, while the second package is pegged at Rs 11,263 crore. She asked why the tender amount had risen by almost 97 per cent, despite a government circular that caps tender premium at 5 per cent. “A project of this magnitude should not be tendered without a proper cost justification,” she said.
