On August 6, in Udupi, Taranath Gatti Kapikad, President of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, emphasized the need for students to learn about the histories of local feudal kings who ruled their towns. He was speaking at a state-level seminar on the theme of ‘Alupere’s Administration Historical Documentation’, organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Sripurnaprajna Sandhya College, Udupi, and History Faculty Association of Mangalore University. The seminar, held at Vibhudesh Hall of the college, brought together experts to discuss the significance of understanding local history. Kapikad noted that while students are familiar with the history of great emperors and the world, they often lack knowledge about the history of their own town. Dr. B. Jagadish Shetty, a historian and Administrator of National Poet Govinda Pai Research Center, Udupi, participated as the chief guest and shared insights into the history of Udyavara in Udupi district. He described Udyavara as the capital of Alupa kings, which was a major political, economic, and cultural center. The seminar was presided over by Purnaprajna Sandhya College Principal Chandrakant Bhat, and other notable speakers included Dr. Pundika Ganapayya Bhatt, a retired history professor from Moodbidya, and Purnima, Deputy Director of Kannada and Culture Department.
