On July 19, Udupi police apprehended three individuals in possession of large quantities of prohibited substances, including MDMA powder, tablets, and hydro ganja, in a public area of Budnar, Shivali village, Udupi. The accused, Vijay Poojary, P.A. Muhammad Shammas, and Akash Shetty, were found to be selling these substances in various locations across Udupi, including Kaup, Manipal, and Karkala. The seized substances are valued at lakhs of rupees. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Udupi Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Belliappa K.U. and led by Malpe Police Inspector Ramachandra Nayak. A special team comprising personnel from Udupi Traffic Police Station, Cyber Crime Police Station, and Hiriadka Police Station participated in the operation. The accused were found with 04 grams of MDMA powder, 2.5 grams of hydro ganja, 3.65 grams of MDMA tablets, and 3 grams of ganja, along with a car and other properties. A case has been registered at Udupi City Police Station.
The arrests are a significant blow to the narcotics trade in the region. The police team, which included Udupi Traffic Police Station PSI Mahesh T.M., Praveen Kumar, Praveen Shettigar, Indresh, Hanumanta Aski, Manu Kumar, Rashmi Hegde, Ravi Kumar, Srinivas, Santhosh, and Dinesh, worked together to apprehend the accused and seize the prohibited substances.
