On Saturday, the Udupi police apprehended three individuals in connection with the murder of David D’Souza, which occurred in the early hours of Friday in Mudarangadi town, Kapu taluk. The police identified the accused as Raju, 42, from Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Rastogi Yane Annol, 23, from Uttarakhand, and Ziyahul Wazul Sheikh, 38, also known as Deepak, from Bihar. David D’Souza, 55, was shot in the head with a pistol near his office in the Seng Xavier Church complex. The assailants escaped, but the police tracked them down after they fled by bike and then by bus towards Bhatkal. The police stopped the bus at Byndur’s Pedenene and apprehended the accused. Raju, the main accused, was shot in the leg by P.S.I. Tejaswi while attempting to escape. The other two accused, Ajay and Ziyahul, were arrested in Kumta and Bhatkal, respectively, with the assistance of local police. A case of attempted murder and obstruction of duty has been registered against Raju at the Byndur police station.
