On July 18, Udupi district was grappling with the challenge of controlling dengue fever, amidst the ongoing monsoon season. The Health Department has been working tirelessly to eradicate mosquito breeding sites and ensure cleanliness in the area. According to District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Basavaraj Hubballi, the district has reported 303 dengue cases so far this year, with 252 being local cases and 51 being cases of migrant workers.
Dr. Hubballi stated that most of the patients have recovered after treatment. The district has also taken measures to prevent the spread of other infectious diseases such as malaria and H1N1. The Health Department has been conducting regular surveys and providing treatment to those affected. The district has reported a significant decrease in dengue cases in recent days, with only five cases reported on July 18.
The Udupi City Municipal Council area has seen the highest number of dengue cases, with 193 cases reported from the urban area and 81 cases from the rural area. The Health Department has been working to prevent the spread of the disease by conducting regular fogging and destroying mosquito breeding sites. The district has also been conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public on the importance of cleanliness and prevention of mosquito breeding.
According to Dr. Vasudeva Uppadya, Malaria Officer, the district has been able to control the spread of dengue due to the timely and effective measures taken by the Health Department. The district has reported a significant decrease in dengue cases compared to previous years, with only 35 cases reported in the first six months of this year.
