On July 26, at the Anugraha Palana Centre in Kakkunje, Udupi Catholic Sabha and John D’Silva Foundation, Mumbai, jointly organized a talent award ceremony. Most Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza, the bishop of Udupi Catholic diocese, inaugurated the event and emphasized the importance of parents and teachers in shaping a child’s educational future. He also stressed that rural students should utilize available facilities to achieve good grades, as securing high ranks is crucial in today’s competitive era.
Dr. Jacintha D’Souza, joint director of the state women and child welfare department, was the chief guest and suggested that parents should give their children the freedom to choose their future careers without imposing pressure. John D’Silva, the founder of the John D’Silva Foundation, encouraged students to focus on competitive exams in the digital age to build a better future.
A total of 14 students were awarded cash prizes for their outstanding performance in various exams, including five who cleared the CA exam, seven who completed their PhD, and students from 52 churches in the diocese who scored the highest marks in the SSLC and PUC exams. The event was presided over by Melvin Aranha, president of Udupi Catholic Sabha, and attended by several dignitaries, including Gladys D’Silva, Ronald Almeida, Urban Lewis, Walter Cyril Pinto, and others.
