On June 19, in Chennai, a war of words erupted between the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the AIADMK, sparked by Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who accused the state government of failing to protect innocent lives. Palaniswami alleged that the TVK government had begun valuing human lives in just 60 days of taking office, citing recent controversies in Nagercoil and Puzhal prison. He claimed the government was attempting to silence victims’ families through compensation rather than ensuring justice. The AIADMK leader compared the situation to escaping one danger only to fall into another, urging the government to govern responsibly. In response, the TVK IT Wing launched a counterattack, dismissing Palaniswami’s criticism as hypocritical. The party accused the AIADMK of lacking moral authority to speak on clean governance, given their past actions. The TVK also brought up the Sathankulam custodial deaths during the AIADMK regime, questioning whether the public had forgotten. The party took exception to remarks about the influence of cinema in politics, saying this disrespected former Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, who rose to power from the film industry. The TVK concluded that the people were watching the AIADMK’s attacks on the Chief Minister, who is committed to corruption-free governance.
