From the United Nations General Assembly in New York, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, September 22, issued a strong appeal for nations to withdraw immediately from the International Criminal Court (ICC), labeling it a 'rogue institution' with no legitimate authority over the United States or its military personnel.
Addressing a wide range of international institutions, President Trump asserted Washington would never permit investigations or 'show trials' involving American service members or other US citizens by what he termed an 'anti-American tribunal.' He characterized the court as 'out-of-control' and its officials as 'an evil group of people.'
This condemnation formed part of a broader critique against international organizations and regulations Trump argued infringed national sovereignty. 'There is no global government,' he declared, promising 'no global taxes' during his presidency.
The President also highlighted his administration's collaboration with other nations on what he described as the most extensive reforms in UN history. He noted a 15 per cent cut to the UN budget in 2026, eliminating over 4,000 positions, while accusing 'unelected officials' of pursuing a 'far-Left global agenda' that 'nobody ever elected.'
Trump further targeted the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), a UN agency regulating global shipping, claiming his administration intervened to prevent the establishment of the 'first global carbon tax.' He warned this proposal could have increased international shipping costs by 10 to 20 per cent or more. He also criticized UNESCO, accusing its international officials of promoting mass migration while claiming to protect cultural heritage.
Reaffirming national rights, Trump stated there was 'no human right to illegal immigration' but an inherent right for every country to maintain its sovereignty. He urged nations to reject international policies that, in his view, weakened national governments or transferred authority to unelected global institutions.
