State Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George announced on Thursday that the Rs 9 crore Trasi Beach development will be completed within three months, covering the coastal stretch in Mangalore and Udupi districts.
The plan includes a skywalk that will allow tourists to cross National Highway 66 safely, an adventure park spread over roughly seven acres, and a dedicated parking area for vehicles. Officials inspected the ongoing works on the beach before meeting local leaders and the press.
To enhance visitor safety, the ministry will install a barrier near the highway to prevent dangerous sea entry, and will train local residents as lifeguards. The initiative aims to provide continuous monitoring and rapid response for beachgoers.
In a separate briefing, George highlighted the state’s surge in electricity demand, rising from about 10,000 megawatts three years ago to 18,000 megawatts today. He noted that reduced rainfall has affected hydro‑electric output, prompting upgrades to transformers and substations. No official load‑shedding order has been issued, though occasional technical glitches cause outages. Recruitment of line‑men from other districts continues because local interest remains low, and newly hired staff will not be eligible for transfer for nine years.
The Warahi pump‑storage project, proposed on 125 acres, has a detailed project report ready and has been forwarded to the centre for approval.
