On Thursday, in the Mahuli locality of Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, a nearly 100-year-old house collapsed under the pressure of heavy rainfall, claiming the lives of six family members. The incident occurred in the early hours, while the family of seven was asleep in the same room. Aman Srivastava, the sole survivor, was rescued alive and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The deceased include a couple, their son, daughter-in-law, and two young children.
According to Aman Srivastava, when he regained consciousness, he found himself buried under the debris. He managed to free himself and immediately sought help, but unfortunately, his family members were trapped and could not be rescued in time. Neighbour Poonam Srivastava described the scene, stating that the roof collapsed suddenly, causing debris from the upper floor to crash onto the lower floor, trapping the family inside.
Circle Officer Ashutosh Mishra reported that the Kotwali Police Station received information about the collapse at around 2 a.m. and immediately dispatched police and fire brigade teams to the scene. The teams removed the debris, shifted the victims to the district hospital, where six of them were declared dead. The rescue operations were completed, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
