In an unusual scene, being overweight caused a group of officers to be denied their right to promotion in Iraq.

Yesterday evening, Monday, the Iraqi Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir al-Shammari, directed the exclusion of a group of officers from promotion for the current July schedule, due to their weight gain.

According to a tweet on the ministry’s Twitter page, this came during Al-Shammari’s presidency of the ministry’s opinion board meeting.

The meeting witnessed the instructions of the Minister of the Interior to “exclude the officers covered by the promotion for the current July schedule, who are overweight, in accordance with the Health Fitness Law.”
