The beach at Malpe has been marked with red flags, safety nets, and a sea-turbulence warning board
Udupi August 04 : It has been raining in the city for the past few days. Along with this, the water level of the Malpey Sea has increased and the tides have increased. Now, a safety net has been erected around the beach to prevent tourists from entering the sea at Malpe Beach, just days after a young woman was drowned in the water.
Sudesh Shetty of the Malpe Beach Development Committee informed about this and the safety fence have been built around the beach by the Malpe Beach Development Committee. A safety net has been erected at a height of about 5-6 feet from the beach and about 5 km from the beach.
Red flags were installed on the beach with a warning banner labeled “Danger, No Entry”. The tourists are warned not to enter the sea and to be fined Rs 500 if any tourist breaks into the sea. In addition, tourists are being alerted to the public through a sound system on the beach.
Although there is a lifeguard on the beach, access to the sea during the rainy season can be hazardous as the sea is very restless. So no traveler should cross the trap installed on the beach.
Normally last week of August or in the first week of September, the Safety fence and red flag will be lifted around the beach, taking care of the marine conditions. Yellow flags indicate that access to the sea is safe. Therefore, beware of the red flag installed around the beach as a warning and tourists should not enter the sea until the yellow flag is installed. Tourists are requested to comply with these rules of the Malpe Beach Authority.
