On a recent day in Karimnagar, the Telangana Generation and Distribution Power Company Limited (TGNPDCL) completed the technical charging of the city’s first indoor 33/11 kV substation. The operation, carried out by senior engineers, marks the inaugural energisation of an indoor high‑voltage facility within the district.
The substation, designed to handle 33 kV incoming lines and step them down to 11 kV for local distribution, is housed entirely within a purpose‑built building. By locating the equipment indoors, the utility aims to protect critical assets from extreme weather, reduce maintenance interruptions, and improve overall reliability for residential and commercial consumers.
Technical charging indicates that all transformers, circuit breakers and protection relays have been energized and tested in accordance with national safety standards. TGNPDCL officials confirmed that the substation will now feed power to surrounding areas, enhancing load management and supporting future demand growth.
Local authorities welcomed the development, noting that the indoor design aligns with broader efforts to modernise the region’s power infrastructure. The project also underscores TGNPDCL’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies that minimise outage durations and improve service quality.
As the first of its kind in Karimnagar, the indoor 33/11 kV substation sets a precedent for similar installations across Telangana, where rapid urbanisation and industrial expansion demand resilient and efficient electricity supply.
