Anderson’s experience will be needed in India after Stuart Broad’s retirement: Nasser Hussain
London: Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes England will need the experience of James Anderson for the five–Test series in India next year after the retirements of fast bowler Stuart Broad and all–rounder Moeen Ali. The 41–year–old Anderson, who has taken the most wickets in Test cricket, could not make any impact in the Ashes series.
Hussain said in the ICC review, “Jimmy‘s record against India is very good. England need a balanced bowling attack. The team needs experience. Anderson has taken more than five wickets in Test cricket 32 times, out of which six times he has done this feat against India.
“His performance in the last few months has been poor or mediocre but it would be foolish to consider him a loser. I spoke to him in an interview and he is still hungry. He is just thinking about how to get his best form back. Hussain said the Ashes is a thing of the past and Anderson is looking at new challenges and goals.
“He is thinking about getting back to the nets which is a good sign. Which shows that there is still hunger within him. He is ten wickets away from 700 Test wickets and that will be his inspiration. “After Broad‘s retirement, England will need Anderson in India. Chris Woakes has said that he does not want to play outside England and his record abroad is also not good. Anderson‘s experience is very important in the absence of Woakes and Broad. ”
Hussain said the India tour will be very challenging for England’s “buzzball“ (England‘s aggressive style of play with coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes). “The challenge in India will be tough and it is known to all.
