Squash World Cup 2023 going on in Chennai after 12 years  Indian team has qualified for the semi-finals. After defeating Hong Kong China in the first match of the tournament, India defeated South Africa easily by 4-0 in the second match. Along with this, India is at the top of Pool B with 12 points in the points table. Japan is in second place with 10 points. India’s Tanvi Khanna, Saurav Ghosal, Joshna Chinappa, and Abhay Singh recorded comfortable victories over their respective opponents. With this, India has entered the semi-finals with one match remaining. India will face Japan in their last league match. India’s aim is to win this match and retain the No.1 position in the points table.

In the first match, Tanvi Khanna defeated Hayley Ward 7-4, 7-2, 3-7, 7-2. The match was almost one-sided as Tanvi lost only one game. In the second match, Sourav Ghosal defeated Devald van Niekerk 7-6, 7-4, 7-1. With this win, the scoreline for India increased to 2-0. In the third match of the tie, Joshna Chinappa defeated Lizel Muller 7-4, 7-3, 3-7, 7-1. Thus, India took a 3-0 lead in the tie. Finally, Abhay Singh extended India’s lead to 4-0 with a 7-4, 3-7, 7-6, 7-5 win over Jean-Pierre Brits.

The squash championship is held in two stages, the first is the group stage and the second is the knockout stage. For the group stage, the teams are divided into two pools of four teams each. Egypt, Australia, Malaysia and Colombia are in Pool A, while India, Japan, South Africa and Hong Kong China are in Pool B. In the group stage, each team competes against the other three teams in its pool in a round-robin format (one team plays one match each against the other teams in the group). The top two teams from each pool enter the semi-finals. The remaining teams will compete in matches for fifth through eighth place. These matches are organized for play off classification.

A squash team consists of four members. Each team consists of two men and two women. In the event of a draw in the knockout round, the winning team will be determined by the number of games won or lost by each team during the tie.
