Mangaluru : Six people were nabbed by Dakshina Kannada police for allegedly syphoning furnace oil from tankers travelling on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway 75. Raghunathan, Muttu Pandi, G. Das, Singaraj, S. Keerthi, and Selvaraj are the names of the accused, according to the police.

A team lead by Puttur Assistant Superintendent of Police Gana P. Kumar raided a residence in Mannagundi of Kaukradi village in Kadaba taluk on June 29 after receiving a tip. The location, which is just a few metres from the National Highway, was used to store stolen furnace oil.The authorities discovered 10,500 gallons of furnace oil in two underground tanks in the house’s garden. Two tankers loaded with furnace oil, two pumps, and other equipment were also seized. The material collected was worth a total of 35.21 lakh rupees..

The accused allegedly paid drivers money to allow them to offload furnace oil ranging from 50 to 200 litres from each oil tanker, according to the police. The oil was kept in two underground storage tanks. According to the authorities, this oil was being illegally transferred to Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and other locations..With the cooperation of the other accused, Raghunathan and Muttu Pandi ran the operation. The accused was charged with charges under Sections 379, 417, 320, and 287 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 23 of the Petroleum Act, at Uppinangady Police Station.

The inquiry is ongoing, according to Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Sonawane, to uncover additional people who are allegedly connected to the accused.
