Bengaluru, June 22: The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a PIL seeking a direction to the government to reduce the weight of the bags of primary school children. But the applicant has been instructed to make a fresh application with proper study and documents or information.

‘The matter is serious. However, the petitioner has not made any effort except submitting a request to the authorities through e-mail. “There is no evidence to support his claim that he personally visited the schools and came to know about the problem,” the bench said.

Also, the applicant could have come to the court after furnishing the necessary information. There is no evidence. It expressed the opinion that this is a half-baked application. The bench, which first dismissed the application, later disposed of it by giving permission to file a fresh application as per the request of the applicant.

Applicants, the rule framed by the central government in 2020 that the bag weight limit for children should be this much is not being followed. According to health experts, heavy school bags have a serious impact on children’s health. Therefore, under Article 21 of the Constitution, they requested that a clear direction should be given to the government.
