Mumbai – Bollywood veteran Sanjay Dutt used his social‑media channels on Sunday to reiterate that the remark about “no peace in India” spoken on Shekhar Suman’s television show was part of a scripted segment, not a reflection of his personal view.
In a short video he posted, the actor greeted followers with “Namaskar friends” and explained that many people had reached out after hearing his comments. He said the statements were delivered according to a pre‑written script and were meant to fit the show’s comedic tone.
The same day Dutt shared a tweet that read, “I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution.” He added that the dialogue was intended to be light‑hearted, drawing a parallel with the satire of his film Munna Bhai and the concept of “Gandhigiri”.
During the broadcast he had observed, “The people of this country are so lovely. There should be peace here. I can't feel that peace in our country anymore. We Indians are large‑hearted and hospitable… I pray to Shivji that those days come back soon.” The phrasing, he now says, belonged to the performance.
Dutt concluded the video by thanking fans for their trust, assuring that his real opinions remain separate from any scripted jokes, and signing off with “Jai Hind. Jai Bharat.” The clarification aims to quell the misunderstanding that arose after the televised remark.
Social media users split in their response; some expressed surprise at the actor’s candidness, while others criticised the original comment as insensitive. By emphasizing the scripted nature of the exchange, Dutt hopes to restore the goodwill he feels his fans have shown him over the years.
