Mangaluru: Former minister B. Ramanath Rai on Thursday publicly urged the state government to dismiss Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna from his legislative position and initiate appropriate legal proceedings against him. Addressing a press conference at the District Congress office in Mallikatte, Rai condemned Suvarna's 'derogatory, objectionable, and hateful speeches' directed at Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi.

Rai highlighted the significant contributions of the Nehru-Indira Gandhi family to India's development. He specifically denounced MLA Yashpal Suvarna's statement expressing an intent to 'destroy the family' of Rahul Gandhi, who descends from this lineage. The former minister further noted Rahul Gandhi's recent efforts, both inside and outside Parliament, to secure redressal for students affected by the NEET scam, affirming Gandhi's fulfillment of his responsibilities as the Leader of the Opposition.

During the same press interaction, reporters questioned Rai about the selection process for the D.K. District Congress President post. Ramanath Rai articulated his view that individuals who have 'just joined yesterday or the day before' should not assume the party presidency. He strongly advocated for senior, loyal, and dedicated workers who have consistently toiled for the party to be appointed to the leadership role.

Prominent party leaders attending the press conference included Mamatha Gatti, Chairperson of the Cashew Development Corporation, Pius Rodrigues, Shahul Hameed, Baby Kundar, Abbas Ali, Subhodaya Alva, Appi S, Vikas Shetty, T.K. Sudheer, and Nithyananda Shetty.
