The Rajkot City Crime Branch on October 15 announced the arrest of nine suspects linked to a Rs 1.53 crore gold and silver robbery‑cum‑murder that occurred on October 14 near the Tanvi Gold Enterprise refinery in the Aji GIDC zone of Rajkot.

At approximately 8.15 pm the victim, 53‑year‑old Lalji Sardhara, was transporting a bag of ornaments on an Activa scooter when three to four men in a car attempted to snatch it. When Sardhara resisted, one attacker opened fire, striking him in the chest. He was taken to a private hospital but died while receiving treatment, converting the theft into a murder case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagdish Bangarva said technical surveillance enabled the Crime Branch to trace the gang within 12 hours. Coordinated action with Pindwara police of Sirohi district and Udaipur district police in Rajasthan led to the capture of all nine accused, including four alleged robbers and five individuals believed to have aided planning and execution.

Authorities recovered the entire consignment: 946 grams of gold valued at Rs 1,48,90,000 and two kilograms of refined silver dust worth Rs 4,30,000, bringing the total recovered value to Rs 1,53,20,000.

Investigators are probing the suspected involvement of an insider. Police allege that an employee of Tanvi Gold Enterprise disclosed the movement schedule of the valuables, allowing the gang to target the shipment.

CCTV footage of the incident has been released, and the arrested suspects are being escorted back to Rajkot for further questioning and legal proceedings.
