Five talented students from Puttur's Varnakuteera Art Education Institute at Kallare have etched their names into the Asian Golden Book of World Records, recognized on October 4, 2026, for extraordinary sand art performances. Their remarkable feats, including intricate designs crafted while blindfolded, have brought significant acclaim to the coastal Karnataka town.

The institute witnessed three Class 6 students—Buvika R.K., Anshi Santhosh Kumar, and Vishma Ajjikallu—demonstrate incredible focus by creating sand art continuously for 30 hours, entirely blindfolded. Simultaneously, Class 3 students Himanshu Krishna and Sohan K.S. completed an impressive 18-hour sand art performance with their eyes open. Dr. Manish Vaishnoi, the Asia head of the Asian Golden Book of World Records, personally attended the record-setting events, presenting certificates to the young achievers.

The recognition extended beyond the artists themselves; eight playback singers from the institute also earned places in the Golden Book of Records as "Best Coordinators" for their vital support during these performances. This esteemed group includes Varnakuteera coordinator Praveen Varnakuteera, institute president Geethalakshmi Kedimaru, Anusha Ammannaya, Ravi Puttur, Shiva Kumar Bettampady, Prasanna P., Greeshma Ekatadaka, and Gautham Krishna Nekkre.

This latest achievement builds upon previous success, notably Varnakuteera student Shamika M.K.'s entry into the Asian Book of Records for crafting approximately 300 blindfolded sand art designs in 24 hours, also accompanied by playback singing. The recent record-setting event itself was inaugurated on September 26 by B.V. Narayana Bhat.

Several prominent community figures attended the ceremony to congratulate the students. Among them were Eshwar Bhat Panjigudde, president of the Mahalingeshwara Temple Management Committee; Sahaj Rai Balajje, founder of Vijay Samrat; Shashikumar Rai Balyottu, a Cooperative Federation state committee member and D.K. District Central Cooperative Bank director; Arun Kumar Puthila, founder of Puthila Parivar Seva Trust; and civil engineer Hariprasad Rai.
