The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in Puttur granted bail on Thursday to Sudarshan Pai, the son of Janaseva Kendra proprietor Anjana S. Pai, in a case stemming from an alleged assault at the centre’s Darbe digital service unit.
The dispute began after Fatimat Miswan, a resident of Jallur in Sulya taluk, visited the Darbe digital service centre on August 21 with her brother and sister. She handed over several papers for printing and lamination. When she returned to collect them, one document was found torn. The complaint alleges that Anjana Pai and Sudarshan Pai, who were present at the shop, responded with harsh language and demanded either a repair or payment for a new registration.
Police at Puttur Nagar police station recorded the allegation under Sections 352, 115(2) and 109(3)(5) of the Indian Penal Code. Following the FIR, officers detained Sudarshan Pai and presented him before the court. While he remained in judicial custody, the Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court later released him on bail.
In a separate order, the same court granted anticipatory bail to the centre’s proprietor, Anjana S. Pai, shielding her from immediate arrest while the investigation proceeds.
Both bail orders were issued on Thursday, allowing the accused to remain free pending further legal steps. Legal observers point out that anticipatory bail serves as a preventive tool when a person expects arrest; the court’s ruling suggests the accused does not pose a flight risk and that the alleged conduct, though abusive, does not constitute a grave violent offence.
