On Tuesday evening, Oct 28, 2026, residents gathered outside Surathkal Police Station in Mangalore, carrying the body of Somanath, a Hosabettu resident who had taken his own life the previous morning.
Police records show Somanath left a note stating he was responsible for his death. The suicide followed a dispute that began on Oct 25 at a fishing jetty near Hosabettu, where a young man from Kasaragod and a woman from Delhi were present.
Local onlookers objected to the couple’s presence, leading to a heated argument. The woman filed a complaint, prompting Surathkal police to register a case against Somanath and summon him for questioning.
